‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. South Shore neighborhood to gather with Heart and Soul

POLSON — Polson Heart and Soul continues its neighborhood gatherings on Thursday, June 27, from 6-8:30 p.m. Everyone of all ages is welcome to attend, with special emphasis for those living around the South Shore neighborhood. Fun, good conversation and a free dinner are planned and babysitting services are available.

The neighborhood gathering will take place at the Polson Bay Golf Course Club House, (lower level), 111 Bay View Drive.

Polson Heart and Soul project is holding approximately 20 of these gatherings to find out what you think about Polson. Folks are invited to engage in a friendly conversation with neighbors, ultimately to help develop a stronger, healthier Polson while preserving the best. You are invited to let your views be heard and to listen to what others have to say on a variety of topics. 

Activities include dinner from 6–6:30 p.m., small group conversations within groups of three from 6:30–7:30; and sharing with a discussion led by Polson Heart and Soul staff from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Come join your neighbors and visit about the future of Polson.

Transportation committee to discuss routes

Multiple fundraisers scheduled to raise money for fireworks show

POLSON — There will be a boot drive/firecracker fundraiser on Friday, June 28; the Marine Corps league will hold a boot drive fundraiser on Saturday, June 29; and that evening there will be a 50/50 fundraiser at the rodeo; all to raise funds for the 4th of July fireworks show in Polson. The Polson Chamber of Commerce will hold a bake sale at the chamber office on the 4th of July from 10 a.m. until noon.

Pachyderm group invites CPA to speak about taxes

POLSON — “Taxes—Now and Near Future; current developments in income taxes and a forecast of upcoming tax changes” will be the topic of guest speaker Walter J. Kero, at the Friday, June 28, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. Kero is a 1973 graduate of the University of Montana with a degree in Business Administration and a major in accounting. 

Anyone interested is cordially invited. The meeting begins with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and adjourns at 1 p.m. The meeting is held in the Polson Rural Fire Department Hall on Regatta Road west of the bridge in Polson.

Pet, rodeo parades make their way down Main Street

POLSON — At 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, watch the Rodeo Parade and the Children’s Pet Parade (yes, dress up your pets) in downtown Polson. Church to show film, host discussion

POLSON — The internationally acclaimed film, “Occupy Love: Evolution of the Heart” will be shown at Journey Be Church, located at 101 Seventh Ave., W., on Sunday, June 30, at 9 a.m. The 80-minute film will be followed by a short discussion while coffee and cookies are served. Occupy Love explores the growing realization that our current power systems are failing to provide health, happiness or meaning for billions on the planet. The old paradigm that concentrates wealth, founded on the greed of a few, is increasingly causing economic and global collapse. The question is—how do we create a world that works for all of us as well as future generations. Please come and join the discussion.

Add to library’s collection, adopt a book

POLSON — North Lake County Public Library is offering its annual Adopt-a-Book program, an opportunity to “adopt” a children’s book and present it to the library’s collection. Adopt-a-Book takes place during the month of February, which is designated “I Love to Read Month.”

Community members can purchase a book to honor a special child, friend, relative, or event (Valentine’s Day, birthday, anniversary, etc.), or to remember a loved one. Each hardback book is $13.

The wide variety of colorful new books waiting for adoption is now on display at the library. After a book is purchased, a bookplate will be inscribed and permanently placed in the front of the book. In addition, a special acknowledgement of the sponsored book can be sent to the honoree.

Caregiver class offered

POLSON — A “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” class is scheduled for Wednesdays, Feb. 20-March 27, from 10-11:30 a.m., at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson. There is no fee for the class. A donation of $25 is suggested. The class is sponsored by the Area VI Agency on Aging to help caregivers take care of themselves, better understand their emotions, communicate more effectively and find local resources. Library creates special time for babies, toddlers

POLSON — Join Mother Goose at North Lake County Public Library in Polson every Monday for a special half-hour program for babies and toddlers ages 0-3 and their caregivers. The library offers free technology training tailored to your needs. Fundraiser for group heading to Africa

POLSON — A fundraiser, including root beer floats and a silent auction will be held at Glacier Brewery, 6 Tenth Ave., on July 4, after the parade. This is for a Polson group heading to South Africa to build a home for a family caring for children orphaned by the AIDS crisis. They will work with Mosaic (www.mosaicsa.org).

Polson plans full agenda for the Fourth of July

POLSON — Polson’s 4th of July Parade will begin at noon on Thursday, July 4. Entry forms for the parade can be picked up at Polson Chamber of Commerce office. Completed forms should be returned to the chamber office at 418 Main St. by July 3. The Polson Chamber of Commerce will have a fireworks fundraising lemonade and bake sale to help support the 2013 Fireworks Display. The fundraiser will be in the front yard of the Polson Chamber building from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on July 4. Polson’s fifth annual “Firecracker 1 Mile Fun Run” will start at 11:45 a.m. at St. Joseph Medical Center. The cost is a non-perishable food item to be donated to Polson Loaves and Fishes. Bri’s Memorial Run/Walk proceeds to help family

POLSON — Bri’s 5K Memorial Run/Walk will be held Saturday, July 6, beginning at 9 a.m. at Polson High School. This event is in memory of Brianne Paro-Sias Pacheco, a PHS Class of 1998 graduate. Everyone is welcome, runners, walkers, or simply supporters. A memorial tribute will follow the run at the Polson High School Stadium. Registration is $25. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to Bri’s husband and three daughters. Churches invite children to summer event

POLSON — The United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church invite children to ‘Kingdom Rock: Where Kids Stand Strong for God.” This summer kids’ event takes place in Polson and will be hosted at United Methodist Church from July 8 - July 12. Kids at Kingdom Rock will join an international missions effort to share God’s love with children in India. Kingdom Rock is for kids from preschool to sixth grade. Kids in seventh grade and up will participate in service projects around the Polson area. The camp will run from 8:30-11:30 each day. For more information, call (406) 883-6161.
