‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

POLSON — The Kuilix chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will sponsor a program at Miracle of America Museum on Highway 93 in Polson at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17. Director Gil Mangels will talk about the American Revolutionary memorabilia displays in the museum and also demonstrate early firearms used in the War of Independence. Fair helps prevent children's injuries

The Lake County Public Health Department invites parents of young children to attend its annual Injury Prevention Fair on Friday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the parking lot at 802 Main Street in Polson.

Lunch will be provided, as well as children’s activities, prizes and information on water safety, safe sleep, car seat and bike safety, and much more. There will be information about lead poisoning and screening, and vouchers will be provided for those who want to come back and get their child’s lead levels tested.

POLSON — The Polson Chamber of Commerce’s annual “Chamber Blast” will be held on Saturday, June 28, at Big Sky Sporting Clays. We will start with a quick beginner’s shooting clinic, followed by a shooter’s safety briefing prior to the Sporting Clays Tournament. A barbecue lunch and awards ceremony will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The cost is $110 per shooter or $330 per three-person team. Bring your shotgun, eye protection, and ear protection. Heavenly Harp concert to include music, stories

POLSON — The mother-daughter duo known as “Heavenly Harp” will present a concert at Good Shepherd Church on Tuesday, June 24, at 7 p.m., as part of their summer tour.

Music grads of Concordia and St. Olaf Colleges, Karin and Joy Gunderson will be joined by other family members in presenting beautiful harp, vocal, piano and flute music, and amazing “heavenly” stories.

The concert is offered at no cost, but a free-will offering opportunity will be available to help support the duo. CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase.

During the concert, musician and author Karin Gunderson will share stories from her new book Encounters with Heaven. Her stories are true accounts of those who have experienced God’s presence in miraculous ways. The stories are woven together with beautiful harp, vocal and flute arrangements of favorite Christian hymns and songs, light classical music and congregational singing.

Bank fundraises for Relay for Life

POLSON/RONAN — Community Bank is having fundraisers for the upcoming Relay for Life at both the Ronan and Polson branches on Thursday, June 26.

There will be a bake and book sale starting at 9 a.m. at both branches. These will be inside the banks.

From 3-7 p.m., on the same day at the Ronan branch, there will be an ice cream sundae fundraiser in the back of the bank during the Farmers Market on Main Street.

Polson Fairgrounds hosts NRA Rodeo

POLSON — The annual Mission Mountain NRA Rodeo will be presented and produced by Polson Fairgrounds, Inc. and will be held Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28. Each evening will begin with youth mutton bustin’ and youth miniature bull riding beginning at 6:30 p.m. The NRA Rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m. Live music by “Montana Darkhorse Band” will be played on Friday night after the rodeo. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 3-12 years of age, and children under 3 are free. Food and beverage concessions will be available. Downtown Polson supports Life Savers Animal Rescue

POLSON — On Saturday, June 28, the Polson Business Community is partnering with Life Savers Animal Rescue in a fundraiser for the animals. Participating businesses are donating a percentage of that day’s sales or making cash donations. Participating businesses will have posters in their windows. The folks from Life Savers Animal Rescue will be downtown that Saturday letting people know about their mission for helping animals. Please consider being part of this community fundraiser. Let's help the animals and create some fun downtown.

Fundraiser includes fire department show and tell

POLSON — The Montecahto Club and the Finley Point volunteer Fire Department will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. at the fire station located at mile marker 6 on Highway 35 on the east shore. Montecahto will have a bake sale and a rummage sale and lots of good stuff. The fire department will have a show and tell of their equipment and a wonderful meal will be available.
