‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Boys and Girls Club announces summer program through Aug. 26

LAKE COUNTY — The Flathead Reservation and Lake County Boys and Girls Club will operate a summer program at both their Polson and Ronan sites Monday-Friday (not July 4) from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. The cost is $25 per month or $75 for the entire summer program, which runs June 13-Aug. 26. Applications may be picked up onsite or at: www.flatheadbgc.org. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by school feeding programs and a snack and dinner will be provided by the club. Activities include: art, technology, swimming, fitness, gardening, photography, robotics, reading, character development, hiking and community service. Additional activities include: Ninepipes Museum, library reading program, camping in Glacier Park, Summer Brain Gain program, SMART moves program.

SKC makes summer fitness fun

PABLO — Salish Kootenai College, “Making Fitness Fun Program” (open to youth 7 years and older) begins June 13 and goes from 8:30 a.m.-noon Monday through Thursday, all summer long. The program will be held at the Salish Kootenai College Joe McDonald Gymnasium. Physical activities will be provided in-between breakfast and lunch. Activities include: swimming, kickball, football, basketball, dodge ball, Native games, volleyball, soccer, Shinny, bike riding and gardening.  Activities are intended to keep kids busy and active during the summer months. Transportation is provided Monday through Thursday to Ronan and Polson Boys and Girls Clubs daily at about noon. Aquatic theme to set mood for coloring

POLSON — North Lake County Public Library in Polson is offering an oceanthemed adult coloring program on Wednesday, June 15, from 2-4 p.m. in the library meeting room. Coloring pages and postcards from Johanna Basford’s 2015 release, “Lost Ocean,” will be featured. A virtual aquarium with relaxing background music on the library’s Smart Board will help set the nautical tone. Light refreshments of ice tea, lemonade, and fresh cookies from the Lake City Bakery will be available. Everyone is welcome. Haines Watercolor Techniques presented

POLSON — On Monday, June 20, at the Sandpiper Gallery, 306 Main Street, Barbara Shrider will review and demonstrate the Jean Haines’ watercolor workshop techniques she obtained at a Daniel Smith workshop in Seattle, Washington. Whether you are new or advanced in watercolor (or any other media) painting, the Haines approach to many familiar techniques (daily exercises, fusion of pigments, for example) is the topic of this presentation. This presentation continues the Sandpiper Membership’s art information series, held each month at 12:30 p.m. following the noon membership meeting. All members of the public are welcome to attend.

POLSON — A free “Night at the Museum” at the Miracle of America Museum, 36094 Memory Lane, takes place on the fourth Thursday evening of each month. The programs start at 6:30 p.m. Treats and donations are happily accepted. If you have questions call 406-883- 6804. The fourth Thursday program was miss-dated on our quarterly newsletter; therefore we will show historical movies on both June 23 and June 30. Back by request will be a re-showing of the Montana Centennial documentary, “Smoke on the Waters.” This movie is about steamboats on Flathead Lake, plus a segment covering the Paul Bunyan, the only remaining logging tow boat of Flathead Lake. Another short film will be shown covering early-day logging in the area. Time permitting; a tour of the Paul Bunyan and related artifacts in the museum collection will take place.

G-Force coming to Polson

POLSON — A registration day will be held at the Polson United Methodist Church from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, for G-Force Vacation Bible Camp. Kids can experience the G-Force, God’s Love in Action -Vacation Bible Camp for one week, June 27-July 1, from 9 a.m.- noon. Focus of the camp each day is God’s Love in Action. Kids will experience love through fun activities including music, puppets, story time, games, science, crafts and mission. A light snack will be served. Camp will end with a Friday Celebration Day picnic provided for the campers and their families from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Registration for kids, entering kindergarten through 12 years of age, is now open. Music, barbecue, more at fundraiser

POLSON — The Friends Forever Mentoring local, independent non-profit group is holding a fundraiser on Thursday, June 23. There will be music, a barbecue. This fun fundraiser will be held at KwaTaqNuk’s patio lounge starting at 6 p.m. with live music provided by the Crawford Brothers. There will be a silent auction with the activities ending at 9 p.m. All proceeds go to the continuation,  improvement, and expansion of the mentoring program in local schools. Fire department, Montecahto Club collaborate

POLSON — In conjunction with the Finley Point / Yellow Bay Fire Department, the Montecahto Club will have a bake sale and garage sale on Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25. There will be lots of goodies. The fire department will hold their annual fundraiser on Saturday only with the “show and tell” of their equipment as well as food. We are at the six-mile marker on Highway 35 (East Shore). Hope to see you there both days. At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, KC and the Valley Cats will play for your dancing and listening pleasure upstairs at the Montecahto Club directly south of the Finley Point Fire Station. Admission is by donation. Bring a munchie to share.

NRA Rodeo sets dates, events

Donate to 4th of July fireworks show

POLSON — The Polson 4th of July fireworks show has become a tradition for our area, brought to you by the Polson Chamber of Commerce. This tradition is funded entirely by donations from our local community members. The chamber is now accepting donations at the downtown office next to the Showboat Theatre, or by mail at 418 Main St, Polson MT 59860. Any amount you care to give is appreciated. The Marine Corp League Hellroaring Detachment will hold their annual fireworks fundraising drive Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Highway 93. Please give what you can.

Free lifesaver clinic offered for youths

POLSON — Mission Valley Aquatics and The Lake Monsters Swim Team will offer a free Junior Lifesaver Clinic on Saturday, June 25, from 9 a.m.-noon. The clinic is open to children ages 11-14 and will include lifeguard demonstrations, hands-on practice, and pool/lake safety information. Bring your swimsuit and a willing attitude. Polson sets date for ‘Chamber Blast’

POLSON — The Polson Chamber of Commerce’s annual ‘Chamber Blast’ is on Saturday, June 25, at Polson Shooting Range. We will start with a quick beginner’s shooting clinic, followed by a shooter’s safety briefing. There will be a barbecue lunch and awards ceremony from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The cost is $110 per shooter, $330 per three-person team. Bring shotgun, eye protection, and ear protection.
