POLSON — A carnival sponsored by Polson Walmart and Nancy’s Kids will take place on Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Polson Fairgrounds. From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. there will be games galore including: horse rides, a dunking booth, a jump house, train rides and more. There will also be hot dogs, chips and drinks to purchase from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. From 4-7 p.m. there will be a barbecue meal sold (hamburger, salad and baked beans), $8 per adult and $5 per child. POLSON — The Lake County Chapter 1122 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will host Young Eagles Flights at Polson Airport on Saturday morning, June 8, starting at 9 a.m.

 All kids between the ages of eight and 17, with their parent’s approval, can get a ride in an airplane free of charge.

A breakfast of pancakes, ham and eggs will be available from 8-11 a.m. All activities are on a “weather permitting” basis.

POLSON — Mark your calendars for “Rockin’ to the Rhythm of Service” Montana Superhost Customer Service training on Monday, June 10, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. Montana has an outstanding reputation for friendly people and is fortunate to have a comprehensive customer service-training program in place where professionals provide customer service training throughout Montana. The Polson Chamber will be teaming up with area businesses to host the Polson Tourism Expo from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. following Superhost training. Free vendor spaces are available. POLSON — Are you interested in ice hockey, figure skating, curling, roller-skating, or roller derby?  If so, you are invited to attend an organizational meeting to discuss the viability of an outdoor refrigerated ice rink to serve all of Lake County and the Flathead Indian Reservation. The meeting will take place at City Hall in Polson on Monday, June 10, at 7 p.m. If there appears to be enough community interest and support, we will form a committee and move forward with this project. POLSON — The Jette Meadows/Lake County Water and Sewer District will meet Monday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m. at 2755 Meadow Rd. in Jette Meadows. This meeting is to discuss and plan for a replacement for the current clerk/secretary/billing manager, who announced her resignation that is effective July 1. The residence is on the south side of Meadow Road and is a milk chocolate log home with a breezeway and garage.

The meeting place was changed because of the unavailability of the North County Library meeting room. All district meetings are open to the public and Jette Meadows residences are especially encouraged to attend.

POLSON — There will be a Polson School Board meeting on Monday, June 10, at the district office, 111 Fourth Ave., E. at 5:30 p.m. 

POLSON — Everyone is invited to attend the Envision Polson meeting on Tuesday, June 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Polson Heart and Soul office located in the northeast corner of the Lake County Public Library. The June meeting of Envision Polson will feature an update by local businessperson Heather Knutson on the Polson Business Growth Action Plan.

POLSON — Polson Rural Fire District trustee monthly meeting Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 7 p.m. fairgrounds station. This meeting includes the election of new secretary.

All residents of the Polson Rural Fire District and interested general public are encouraged to attend. Any member of the public wishing to submit items for board review/consideration needs to submit them to the board clerk at least 10 days in advance of the meeting. POLSON — Members of the Flathead Basin Commission (FBC) will hold a meeting on Wednesday, June 12, at the Flathead Lake Biological Station, Polson.

The morning session, from 9-10 a.m., will focus on FBC business, administration and updates on programmatic work. The afternoon session will focus strategic and long range planning.

The FBC was established by the Montana Legislature in 1983 to “monitor and protect” the water quality of the Flathead River drainage system. All FBC meetings are open to the public.

POLSON —New Life Christian Center will be kicking off Kids’ Zone for boys and girls ages 3 to sixth grade on Wednesday, June 12, with registration from 9 a.m.-9:30 a.m., and activities running from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Kids’ Zone is a totally free program offered to children in Polson and surrounding communities that provides a safe and fun environment for kids to have a great time and learn about God. POLSON — The Masumola Club meeting will be held Thursday, June 13, at the clubhouse. The social gathering begins at 5:45 p.m., the barbecue is at 6:30 p.m. and the program is at 7 p.m. The program will highlight the Masumola Club Art and Talent Show.

The clubhouse is located on Masumola Road.  Anyone in the community of Polson and the surrounding area is invited to attend this meeting as a guest or to join the club and enjoy friendship, meetings and interesting programs. POLSON — Heidi Sedivy, Education Director for Flathead Lakers, will provide an overview of Flathead Lakers activities and will discuss their assessment of the current status of the lake when she speaks at the Friday, June 14 meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club.

Greg McCormick, president of the Flathead Lakers will also attend the meeting and will be available to answer questions.

The meeting will be held at the Polson Rural Fire Department building on Regatta Road west of Polson. It begins with a social time at 11:30 a.m. followed by the business meeting at noon. The meeting adjourns at 1 p.m.

Anyone interested in learning more about the condition and/or threats to the purity of Flathead Lake is invited to attend.

POLSON — The Port Polson Players, in association with the Mission Valley Friends of the Arts, present Mark Twain’s “The Diary of Adam and Eve” with companion piece “When God Comes to Breakfast Your Don’t Burn the Toast.” To kick off the Players 38th summer theatre season, these two, one-act comedies, will feature $10 tickets. Performances will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 14, 15, and 16, at the John Dowdall Theatre on the Lake next to Boettcher Park. The Friday and Saturday curtain time is 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m.

POLSON — A free dinner is being served at Polson Presbyterian Church on June 14 from 5-7 p.m. Polson Presbyterian Church is located across from the Linderman School. The June Friendship Table Dinner will include grilled bratwurst and trimmings. This dinner is free and open to all.

POLSON — Two Eagle River School’s class of 2003 will hold a reunion on Saturday, June 15, at Boettcher Park in Polson. A potluck barbecue will start at noon (bring your favorite dish), followed by a volleyball tournament and more events to be announced. Families and TERS staff are welcome to attend. POLSON — On June 16 at 4 p.m., Rachael and Josiah Pettit of Ronan will perform on the Yamaha grand piano at St. Andrews Church in Polson. Ages 17 and 15, Rachael and Josiah are the children of Jim and Shirley Pettit, who play as a family for dances throughout the valley as The Little Big Band. The two are students of Trish Tavenner and will perform pieces by Chopin, Schubert, and Debussy. The recital is open to the public and refreshments will be served afterwards. POLSON — A summer science camp full of messy-fun science experiments and other activities is being offered June 17-20. The camp takes place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Linderman Elementary School. POLSON — Western night at the Elks takes place on Wednesday, June 19, from 7-9 p.m. Time to once again celebrate with our country finery and our songs. POLSON — Daerf Johnson, staff member for the Environmental Information Center, will present an overview of several major environmental issues currently facing Montana citizens, including the Keystone Pipeline, Otter Creek coal development (which has the potential of becoming the largest coal mine in the United States), and the expansion of other mining operations in Southeast Montana. His presentation, followed by a question and answer period, is being sponsored by the Lake County Democrats and will be held in conjunction with the monthly meeting at the Polson Senior Citizens Center, 504 Third Ave., Wednesday, June 19, from 7-9 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

POLSON — The public is invited to join and attend the 10 a.m. meeting of the Flathead Reservation Area Historical Society on Thursday, June 20. The meeting will be held at the Lake County Courthouse’s large conference room. Payment of $25 membership fees will allow voting at this meeting. Local museums and library boards are invited to participate and present their capabilities to archive research materials. A book signing will follow the meeting. 

POLSON — Polson Heart and Soul continues its neighborhood gatherings Thursday, June 20, from 6-8:30 p.m. People of all ages are welcome to attend, with special emphasis for those living around the Turtle Lake neighborhood. Fun, good conversation and a free dinner are planned and babysitting services are available. 

The neighborhood gathering will take place on the second floor of Total Screen Design located at 40735 Highway 35, Polson. 

Polson Heart and Soul project is holding approximately 20 of these gatherings to find out what you think about Polson. Folks are invited to engage in a friendly conversation with your neighbors, ultimately to help develop a stronger, healthier Polson while preserving the best. You are invited to let your views be heard and to listen to what others have to say on a variety of topics. 

The schedule of activities includes dinner from 6-6:30 p.m.; small group conversations within groups of three, 6:30-7:30; and sharing with discussion led by Polson Heart and Soul staff from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Come join your neighbors and visit about the future of Polson.

POLSON — The long-awaited book, “Lake County School History Volume II,” subtitled, “Once in Flathead County: Many Districts Become One,” will be presented on the third floor of the Lake County Courthouse in the large conference room on June 20, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Author Joyce Decker Wegner, several co-authors, including Glenn Timm, will be on-hand. The general public may purchase books at this time and enjoy a cup of coffee and cookies.

The 608 pages book has hundreds of pictures and stories and sells for $29.95. Pre-paid orders may be picked up. Volume I, “Once in Missoula County: One Large District Becomes Many,” will also be available for purchase.
