‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Help save lives

POLSON – A “Child Passenger Safety” class to be offered June 2–5 at the fairgrounds fire department, 25B Regatta Road, in Polson. Become a certified passenger safety technician and use your new skills to teach parents and caregivers about proper car seat safety for their children. School superintendent to speak to Chamber

Check children’s car seats

POLSON — We are having a child passenger safety check station in Walmart’s parking lot on Friday, June 5, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Stop by and have your child car seat checked by certified child passenger safety technicians. Make sure your child is riding in the car seat that is right for his/her age and weight and that it is installed correctly. This check event is the culmination of a CPS class that took place last week here in Polson where new technicians gained hands-on experience under the guidance of CPS instructors.

Search/Rescue plans fundraising ride

POLSON — Lake County Search and Rescue will hold a fundraiser:  an ATV, UTV, and Dirt Bike Poker Run on Saturday, June 6. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Buffalo Bridge and end at Sloan Bridge with a barbecue dinner. Pre-registration will take place Friday, June 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the VFW in Polson. Late registration starts at 8 a.m. June 6. Registration fees are $35 for the first poker hand and a T-shirt; $10 for additional hands. Register for summer reading program

POLSON — The North Lake County Library Summer Reading Program registration begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 8.

The theme of this year’s program is, “Heroes”—with three sub-themes: for children: “Every Hero Has a Story;” for teens: “Unmask;” and for adults: “Escape the Ordinary.” For each benchmark they achieve, they receive a coupon or a prize and a ticket to enter raffle drawings. The raffle will be the final day of the Summer Reading Program.

POLSON — Support the community dance and don’t miss the opportunity to dance to Heart to Heart. They play great tunes and tempos. June 10 we will celebrate Hawaiian songs and dances. PAT group to make toys

POLSON – Plan to attend the Parents as Teachers Playgroup at the Lake County Health Department in Polson on Wednesday, June 10, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. On June 10 we will make personalized “roller toys” to encourage babies to crawl. Print out photos of your child and bring them with you or bring a camera with photos and we will print them out for you. Give us a call at 406-883-7288, if you have questions. Support group to help grieving adults

POLSON — Partners In Home Care and Providence St. Joseph Medical Center will host a six-week bereavement support group for adults grieving the death of a loved one. It is recommended that participants wait at least two months after a death before attending a group. This group is free and open to the public Wednesdays, June 10-July 15, from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Owens Conference room at St. Joseph Medical Center. Registration is required by June 5. Mowbray to share new book

POLSON – On Thursday, June 11, local award-winning writer Carmine Margo Mowbray will share her new work of historical fiction, “Havoc Red – Surviving the Alaska-Siberia Route, 1943,” at the Miracle of America Museum. This novel is set among the Army Air Force’s Seventh Ferrying Group that flew nearly 8,000 fighters and bombers from Great Falls to Fairbanks where Russians flew them on to the front. Mowbray will autograph copies of her book and is offering a discounted price of $15 with $5 of each sale going to the Museum. Treats and donations are welcome. Young Eagles given free airplane rides

POLSON — The EAA chapter 1122 will be giving free airplane rides (weather permitting) for kids, (Young Eagles), ages 8-17 at the Polson airport on Saturday, June 13, from 9-11 a.m. A parent or legal guardian must be present to sign up their child.
