‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. The St. Andrews Episcopal Church is holding their annual yard sale Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26 at 110 6th Avenue East, at the corner of 2nd Street East. The sale is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. All proceeds go to local charities.

Cowboy Ball proceeds to benefit fairgrounds

POLSON — Polson Fairgrounds, Inc.’s 24th annual Cowboy Ball, Dinner and Auction will be held Friday, April 25, under the Big Tent at the Polson Fairgrounds. No host cocktails and silent auction is at 5:30 p.m.; dinner is at 6:30 p.m.; a live auction takes place at 7:30 p.m.; and dancing featuring Southern Comfort Band will follow. Tickets are $40 each and include one free beer or a glass of wine. Proceeds to benefit fairground improvement and your donations are tax deductible. Pachyderms invite Whitsitt to speak

POLSON — The “Oil and Gas Revolution: The What, the Why … and the Factoid Factor” will be the topic at the Friday, April 25, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderms beginning at noon at the Polson Rural Fire Department building on Regatta Road near the fairgrounds. Dr. Bill Whitsitt, a former energy company executive and industry association leader, will be the guest speaker.

Golf scramble to benefit CASA

POLSON — CASA of Lake County’s golf scramble, hosted by Mick Holien, will take place at Polson Bay Golf Course on Saturday, April 26. The shotgun start 18-hole, four-person scramble includes registration/breakfast at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $260 per team or $60 per person. St. Joe’s hosts second ‘Baby Fair’

POLSON — The Nesting Place, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, is holding their second annual “Baby Fair” on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. in the first floor lobby. They will have information about birthing options, postpartum depression, infant safety and much more. You will be able to visit with pediatric providers, obstetricians, the Department of Public Health and Human Services, and other community groups. ‘Stepping On’ class teaches seniors strength, balance through May 27

POLSON — St. Joseph Medical Center is holding “Stepping On,” a falls-prevention program. This class meets for two hours a week for seven weeks starting April 15. It aims to reduce the more than one-third of adults 65 or older who fall every year. By joining our “Stepping On” workshop, you will learn tips on strength and balance exercises, identification of safe footwear, medications' contribution to fall-risk, eliminating fall hazards in your home, and so much more. This course has been shown to reduce fall risk by up to 30 percent. Join and learn with people your own age how to step outside your home with confidence. Participate in Polson’s ‘Clean Up-Green Up Day’

POLSON — Join Polson’s community-wide annual spring “Clean Up-Green Up Day” set for Friday, May 2, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Headquarters will be located in the Polson library community room at 2 First Ave. E. Volunteers may come to designate areas where they want to work or to be assigned areas that need cleaning up. Lightweight gloves, garbage bags, orange plastic vests, pointed pick-up sticks, bottled water, hot coffee and cookies will be available at “Clean Up-Green Up” headquarters. Participants may register to win one of four gift certificates from local businesses. The Beautification Committee of Envision Polson organizes this cleanup day.

Basic pistol class hosted by PSA

POLSON — The Polson Shooters Association will hold another basic pistol class on Saturday, May 3, at the PSA shooting range, 38386 Kerr Dam Road, beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting approximately eight hours. This class meets the requirements for a concealed carry permit and is a prerequisite for other more advanced classes to be held later this year. Come early and enjoy a cup of coffee and a donut. Bring a lunch and a handgun with 50 rounds of ammo. Cost is $75. SKC Foundation holds annual art auction, gala

Director of SBA to speak at chamber luncheon

POLSON — The Polson Chamber of Commerce’s general meeting and luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson from noon-1 p.m. The KwaTaqNuk will serve a hot entrée lunch for $14.

Hurley to speak about plants

POLSON — "What Plants Have Taught Me” by Pat Hurley will be the next evening program of the Mission Mountain Audubon Society on Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room. Everyone is welcome.

Pat will reflect on the natural history of several native plants in Northwestern Montana. While looking at the fascinating ecological adaptations of Arrowleaf Balsamroot, Stinging Nettle, wild orchids and other fascinating plants, Pat will also consider how those adaptations can be seen as metaphors for our lives.

Pat Hurley teaches biology at Salish Kootenai College.

Public hearing
