‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. POLSON – The Lake County Democrats will hold their biennial Democrat County Convention to elect officers at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at the North Lake County Public Library in Polson. POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis will have their annual awards luncheon on Thursday, May 18, at the KwaTaq- Nuk Resort from noon-1 p.m. Presentations will be given to our scholarship winner and youth groups in the local community. The Polson Middle School Band will perform top selections from the school year for our listening pleasure. Please join us for this very special occasion.

POLSON — Tolerance is at the heart of the upcoming UnVariety Show, slated for May 19 at KwaTaqNuk Resort on May 19 and is co-sponsored by SKC Spirit of Many Colors, ACLU and SAFE Harbor. Spirit of Many Colors Club is a group founded to offer support to those from the LGBTQ community. This is a chance to come together and have fun, while recognizing the rich diversity within the community. Run, walk, support Relay for Life

POLSON — The Family Fun Mile and Skyline Challenge Run/Walk supports Lake County Relay for Life on Saturday, May 20. Registration is at 8 a.m. and start is at 9 a.m. at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, Thirteenth Ave. E. Registration forms are available at St. Joseph Medical Center’s front desk. Pre-registration price until May 13 is $35 for a family of four or more and $10 for individuals. After May 13, family registration is $45 and the individual price is $20. Free Internet Safety Class offered at library

POLSON — North Lake County Public Library will host a free Internet Safety class on Tuesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. in the library meeting room. Library Specialist Heather Miles will present an overview of Internet security and how to stay safe online. Attendees are welcome to bring their own laptops or tablets to follow along. Library laptops will also be available for attendees who don’t have a device. Anyone of any age or skill level is invited to attend. Registration is required.

Let spring inspire your coloring

POLSON — Spring Is Bustin’ Out All Over and an adult coloring program hosted by North Lake County Public Library will take place in the library meeting room on Wednesday, May 24. Two 90-minute sessions are offered at 2:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. Piano instrumental music is on tap for the afternoon session and the Mission Valley Choral Society Small Ensemble will appear for a set of vocal selections in the evening. The library provides coloring projects of all sizes, along with supplies and refreshments. Or, you may bring your own supplies. The library is located at 2 First Ave. E. Enjoy a free night at the museum

POLSON — On Thursday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Miracle of America Museum, a mixed media program titled “Guns, Guns, Guns” will take place. We will begin with a short historic tour and exhibition of firearms dating from the first type up through cartridge guns. There will also be a safety issues presentation, information on buying your first gun, holsters, and ammunition, and information on legal issues.
