‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Seafood dinner, silent auction held on Mother’s Day

POLSON — Good Shepherd’s youth group will serve king crab, shrimp, side dishes and dessert at the Glacier Brewing Company in Polson on Mother’s Day, May 11.

The dinner goes from 1-4 p.m. A silent auction of quilts, art and other items will take place simultaneously. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children under age 12 and can be bought at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 409 Fourth Ave. E, or at the Glacier Brewing Co., corner of 10th and Main St. Please bring your own crab cracker, as our supply is limited.

Mental health month movie, speaker featured at library

POLSON — On Tuesday, May 13, “Silver Linings Playbook”, a popular movie portraying an aspect of mental illness will be shown in the North Lake County Public Library meeting room at 6:30 p.m. Following the film, Laurie Johnson, author of “I Am Laurie” will lead a discussion.

Book sales to benefit MVCA

POLSON —Reading is a gift and the Mission Valley Christian Academy Usborne Book Fair Fundraiser is your chance to give that gift to a child this summer. 

On Friday, May 16, from 3–7 p.m. and Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. over 1,000 fiction and non-fiction titles that inspire, enthrall and teach through reading will be available for purchase at MVCA, located 2 miles east on Highway 35. The Usborne family of books is internationally acclaimed as the finest educational children’s book line-up in the marketplace today. Come purchase a book to help MVCA raise some money by raising your child’s reading level this summer. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit Mission Valley Christian Academy School and library.

Shred paper, dispose of pills, learn about identity theft

POLSON — Community Bank will sponsor their annual “Community After-tax Shred Day” on Friday, May 16, at Polson Community Bank from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. The mobile shred truck will be on location at Community Bank to shred your personal documents for free (limit 2 boxes). Polson Police will also be on site to accept and safely dispose of any prescriptions and/or prescription bottles. Senior Medicare Patrol members and Community Bank staff will be on hand with tips to help consumers protect themselves from identity theft.

Foundation invites nonprofits to information session

POLSON — All local nonprofit organizations are invited to a “get acquainted” session on May 21, 2014, at 11:45 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson.There will be a presentation to provide information explaining the grant application process, which is now available for download on the Greater Polson Community Foundation, website: http://www.greaterpolsoncommunityfoundation.org/grants/.

Interested applicants are welcome to review the application prior to the event and bring questions.

Information about meth and other drugs given

POLSON — Partners in Suicide Prevention and Intervention will hold an educational meeting on Thursday, May 22, from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m., on the third floor of the Tribal Health Building (conference room), 5 Fourth Ave. E. The topic of this meeting will be: the problem with methamphetamines and other drugs, a growing concern in our community. Wade Nash, Chief of the Polson Police Department, will share invaluable insight, information and data on these issues. Lunch will be catered. This and all education and trainings through Partners in Suicide Prevention and Intervention are open and free to the public.
