‘Big doings’ happening at Polson VFW
POLSON — On May 4, the Polson VFW will hold two events. Upstairs, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., a flea market/arts and crafts sale will benefit the “National Home,” an organization that helps veterans’ families. Downstairs, from 7 p.m. to whenever the bands quit, there will be the annual “Musicians Gone but not Forgotten” music event. Five bands and special guests will entertain attendees: Jimni, Compression, Bad Weather, NFA and Hot Flash Blues Band. Proceeds will benefit the Mission Valley Animal Shelter.
Join fifth annual community Earth Day celebration
PABLO — Walkers, bikers, runners and rollers are invited to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., along Highway 93/pedestrian path in Ronan, Pablo and Polson. There will be checkpoints along the way to get your passports and stamps. Receive four stamps on your passport and you get a delicious “Made in Montana” lunch. A bike safety course, bike maintenance and lunch all culminate at the Joe McDonald Activity Center on SKC campus.
Checkpoint stations will provide healthy information and a variety of giveaways. Parking available at Baptiste Road, SKC Event Center or the Transfer Station on Minesinger Road. Winery to teach about food, wine pairings
DAYTON — Come to Mission Mountain Winery, Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., for our annual “Red Wine and Chocolate” event. This is a chance for visitors to learn about the food and wine pairings of various chocolate delights and their corresponding red wines. This free event is a part of the winery’s continuing program to educate the community about the pleasurable synergies created by the pairing of food and wine. Come try out the chocolate fountain and the numerous chocolate treats with our most recent international gold medal winning red wines, 2008 Merlot Reserve and 2008 Monster Red. Our amazing 2008 Malbec, 2009 Syrah, 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2003 Pinot Noir will be served as well. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Jette Meadows water district changes meeting date
JETTE MEADOWS —The monthly meeting date for the Jette Meadows/Lake County Water and Sewer District has been change to Monday, May 6, at 6 p.m. at the North Lake County Library District (Polson) Library community room, 2 First Ave. E, Polson (adjacent to the Fire Hall). The meeting was rescheduled due to unanticipated conflicts.
The agenda will be posted at the meeting room. The public is welcome and all customers of the water district are encouraged to attend. Ample time is allowed for public comment and discussion at every meeting.

Nurses receive free admission
POLSON — All active and retired nurses and nursing students will receive free admission to the Miracle of Montana Museum during “National Nurses Week,” May 6-12. Polson Rural Fire District trustees to elect officers
POLSON — The Polson Rural Fire District trustee monthly meeting will be Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Station. This meeting will include an election of officers. All residents of the Polson Rural Fire District and interested general public are encouraged to attend. Any member of the public wishing to submit items for board review/consideration needs to submit them to the board clerk at least 10 days in advance of the meeting. Masumola Club to meet
POLSON — The Masumola Club meeting will be held Thursday, May 9, at the clubhouse. The social gathering begins at 5:45 p.m., potluck is at 6:30 p.m. and the program is at 7 p.m.

POLSON — The May “Friendship Table Dinner” is coming up on May 10 from 5- 7 p.m. Polson Presbyterian Church is located across from the Linderman School. We will serve fried rice and egg rolls.

‘Broad Comedy,’ auction to benefit Women 4 Wellness
POLSON — A “girls’ night out” is planned for May 11 with Broad Comedy at 7:30 p.m. Happy hour is at 6:30 p.m. The show will be held at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. There will also be an evening auction. These events are fundraisers for Women 4 Wellness.

Mother’s Day dinner to benefit Bethlehem trip
POLSON — Good Shepherd’s youth group will serve a Mother’s Day crab and shrimp dinner on Sunday, May 12, from 2-6 p.m. at the Glacier Brewery at 10th and Main Streets in Polson.
This third annual event will raise funds for the 2014 ecumenical service trip to Bethlehem. Paul Rowold, pastor at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will lead the trip which will include youth and their families. The travelers stay at the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church guest house in Bethlehem, help with work around the church’s school and college, and tour Holy sites throughout the region.
The Mother’s Day dinner will include crab, shrimp, side dishes and dessert. Tickets for the dinner are $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12 and are available at the church office, 409 Fourth Ave., E. We’ll have a few scissors available, but please bring your own crab cracker if you have one.

Herb meeting held at library
POLSON —The next gathering of the “Thyme for Herbs Group” will be Tuesday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at the North Lake County Public Library meeting room 2 First Ave., E.
We will have a guest facilitator, Barb Gabbitas, who will lead the discussion on “The Evolution toward Natural Living from Mainstream Thought.” The second half of the gathering will focus on dividing plants, soil temperature and pH, and using natural fertilizers.
We will help you learn to grow herbs or find local sources for herbs. Anyone interested in learning about herbs, please come join in the discussion. It’s free and open to all who are interested in herbs.

Gray partridge, pheasant seasons discussed at meeting
POLSON — The Flathead Reservation Fish and Wildlife Board will meet Wednesday, May 15, at 6 p.m. at the Polson City Library. At the meeting, the Board will discuss pheasant and gray partridge seasons and CSKT accomplishments over the past year under the state/tribal agreement. All interested persons are invited to attend the meeting.
The Flathead Reservation Fish and Wildlife Board includes three state members, three CSKT members, and one member from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The board was established pursuant to the State/Tribal Agreement on managing fisheries, waterfowl and bird hunting within the boundaries of the Flathead Indian Reservation.
