POLSON — Sandpiper Gallery with have a non-juried show entitled “The ‘R’ in aRt” from April 6-May 16. The show features rodeos, ranching, railroads, reflections, raptors, rockets, roundups, robots, riding, raccoons, and radios... all things “R.” A reception will be held on April 10 from 5-7 p.m.

POLSON — The Mariners will dress in black ties to serve you a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings on Saturday, April 11, at the Polson VFW Banquet Hall at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per person with a no-host bar, a silent auction, raffle, split the pot and door prizes. Sports memorabilia from John Elway, Joe Theisman, “Mean” Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Peyton Manning, Joe Namath and more will be available. All proceeds will benefit the Mission Valley Mariners program.

POLSON — “Havoc Red – Surviving the Alaska-Siberia Route, 1943” is Carmine “Margo” Mowbray’s newest work of historical fiction. She will be discussing it at the Lake County Republican Women’s monthly meeting, Monday, April 13 at noon at the Polson Rural Fire Hall on Regatta Road near the fairgrounds.

Called “an accurate historical fiction of a fascinating part of WWII” by Missoula historian and publisher Stan Cohen, it is a 230-page softcover about Lend-Lease pilots who flew fighters and bombers from Great Falls to Fairbanks during WWII.

During her research, Mowbray discovered a dark side of the operation, one that has consequences to this day. Mowbray will be signing copies of the book, set in 1943, the coldest winter on record.

Attendees are encouraged to bring brown bag lunches. The social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at noon.

POLSON – North Lake County Public Library in Polson is offering its traditional forgiveness of fines during National Library Week, April 13-18. Patrons with overdue items or fines on their cards are encouraged to bring one item of canned or packaged food to the circulation desk for each book/CD/DVD, etc. that is late. Fines will be waived. All food contributions will be donated to the Polson Loaves and Fish Food Pantry. Forgiveness of fines does not include lost or damaged items. POLSON – North Lake County Public Library will unveil four Little Free Libraries for the Polson area. The new Little Free Libraries are small, weatherproof, book housing structures that have been beautifully painted by local artists. They are based on the “take a book, leave a book” concept. The event will take place at the library on Monday, April 13, at 4 p.m. Library Director Marilyn Trosper will launch the project in honor of National Library Week. POLSON — Free technology classes are being offered at North Lake County Public Library in Polson during the month of April. On Tuesday, April 14, from 11 a.m.-noon the course ‘Computer Basics: Using Files and Folders’ will be taught. Losing track of your files and photos after you download or save them? In this class you will learn how to create, organize, tag, delete, and rename your photos and documents so you can find them easily. POLSON – Ken’s Country Combo will entertain us on “Poor Boy Wednesday,” April 15, from 7-10 p.m. This annual dance celebrates surviving tax season. Come join us to feel good and kick up your heels. The treats are superb and there’s lots of room on the dance floor.

POLSON —The next Resource Roundtable discussion will be held April 15 at noon in the Lake County Health Department Conference Room. This meeting is open to all and lunch is provided. Attorney Hilly McGahan will present on the complexities of developing a parenting plan as well as looking at the impacts of violent exposure on children. 

POLSON – Please join us for the Chamber’s monthly after hours networking event, SPLASH. We meet the third Thursday of each month from 5-7 p.m. at various Chamber businesses. Our April 16 SPLASH host will be Home Floor Covering and Polson Stone and Tile, 322 Main Street. As always, SPLASH is open to the public and free to attend. We hope to see you there.

POLSON — Join the fun, dance or just listen to Heart to Heart playing beautiful ballroom music on Wednesday, April 22, at the weekly community dance held at the Elks between 7 and 10 p.m.

POLSON — Free technology classes are being offered at North Lake County Public Library in Polson during the month of April. On Wednesday, April 22, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the course, “Up in the Air: What is the Cloud, and How do I Use it?” will be taught. This class will introduce you to the various ways to compute in the Cloud.

Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Apple all have cloud-based software, and this class will show you each one and give you a short overview of how to set up an account and upload your files. You will need a valid email address to set up any accounts. POLSON — EAA Chapter 1122 will meet on Wednesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Public Library. Please bring ideas for our T-shirts for the 2015 Fly-In to be held in September. Carmine Mowbray will be our program presenter and it will be based on her research for her new book “Havoc Red.” The book is a historical work about a WWII hero from Great Falls. Hope to see you there and please bring a friend - the meeting is open to anyone interested in aviation.

POLSON – Our next Partners in Suicide Prevention and Intervention meeting is on Wednesday, April 22, on the third floor of the Tribal Health Department in Polson. We will start a half hour earlier than normal. The meeting is from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Katharina Werner, Pathway Program Manager from Missoula YWCA, will be doing a Human Trafficking Training. Lunch will be provided. We enjoyed having everyone at our PSPI Cyber-Bullying and Campaign Development meeting.

POLSON – A free community dinner will be served at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 2 Seventh Ave. E. The menu is a surprise. All are welcome.

POLSON – North Lake County Library will host special one-hour programs for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and at 1 p.m. The programs include stories, songs, movements, crafts and more. POLSON — “Exploring Mountain Birds on Pacific Islands,” by Dr. Chris Filardi, will be the next Mission Mountain Audubon program on Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room.

Filardi’s slide presentation will discuss the role of contemporary ornithological expeditions focused on tropical island birds found in only one place and nowhere else in the world. Filardi is Director of Pacific Programs at the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation with the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
