‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. POLSON — The Sandpiper Art and Gift Gallery, 306 Main Street, welcomes you to “Mixing It Up,” Feb. 27-April 6. This is a non-juried art show, open to all artists. Artistic interpretation of the theme in any medium will be accepted. There is a small entry fee for non-Sandpiper member artists. Visit the website for more information. Polson community dance planned

POLSON – Please come and support our Polson community dance from 7 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at the Elks on Main Street. Everyone is welcome. Dance to the Waltz, Two Step, Swing, Cha Cha, etc., with Ken’s Country Combo Band. Casual attire. Price is $5. Snacks are provided at break. Drinks are available at the bar. This would be a great time to get out and meet new friends, socialize with old ones and dance or listen to a good mix of classic country and a little '50s and '60s rock. Hope to see you there.

Blacksmith ‘Hammer-In’ planned

POLSON – The Miracle of America Museum is hosting a free workshop for those interested in blacksmithing at any level from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, in the village “Smithy.” Experienced smiths will demonstrate and explain the art of and teach beginners or want-to-be smiths. Participants must have safety glasses or the equivalent prescription glasses, gloves if desired, (although most smiths go gloveless) and appropriate clothing and footwear. Metal will be available for purchase, or bring your own. Each participant will be able to take home a functional or decorative piece that they have made. Scouts interested in working on their “metals” merit badge will find this interesting and fulfilling. Participants under 18 must have a “waiver of liability and release” signed by a parent or guardian. Forms can be emailed or picked up at the museum desk. Pubic invited to dog trials

POLSON — A North America Dog Agility Council agility dog trial sponsored by the A Rover Runs Through It agility club out of Missoula, will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 7 and 8 at the Milliron Arena on Cutting Horse Lane, north of Polson. There will be dogs and their handlers from all over the state competing in timed obstacle courses including a variety of challenges. Fundraising breakfast and lunch concessions, provided by the Polson High School’s Spanish Club students, will be available. The public is invited to come, watch and enjoy.

‘Food for Fines’ food drive begins at library

POLSON – The North Lake County Public Library is holding a food drive April 8-14. All contributions will be donated to the Polson Loaves and Fish Food Pantry. Patrons with overdue items or fines on their cards are encouraged to bring sealed, commercially prepared, nonperishable food items to the circulation desk. Fines will be reduced by $1 for each item donated. Please note that forgiveness of fines does not include lost or damaged items. Patrons without fines are also encouraged to join in this event to help replenish the food pantry.

Polson superintendent to address Pachyderms

POLSON – Members of the public are invited by Lake County Pachyderms to hear speaker Rex Weltz, Superintendent of Polson School District, address school safety from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 13 at the Polson Rural Fire Department off of Regatta Road. Montana law allows school boards to arm staff as part of an approved program to improve response time for school safety. Mr. Weltz will discuss this seemingly insurmountable local issue covering ideas and factors involved in the public policy about protecting students.
