‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Internationally recognized flautist to perform

POLSON — The internationally recognized Tibetan flautist, Nawang Khechog, will perform at the Crow’s Nest Art Gallery on Tuesday, March 25, from 2-4 p.m. We are truly privileged to have this acclaimed master musician in our midst. He will be accompanied by Tibetan rock star, Tselodoe Tipa. This sizzling event will include a (very) short talk by one of our home girl authors, Roberta Anderson, who recently published her first book in Nepal, titled “Thank You, India.” A book signing will follow her talk.

Please join us for what will prove to be an amazing, memorable event in the history of Polson. This event is open to the public.

‘Love Unknown’ chosen as theme for Lenten worship through April 9

POLSON — Good Shepherd’s Wednesday services and soup suppers will be held each week during Lent, through April 9. The theme for this year’s Lenten worship is “Love Unknown.” We will follow the verses of “My Song is Love Unknown,” which include topics such as “love to the loveless,” “love and grief,” and the “needs we have.” The liturgy for each week comes from modern-day composer Marty Haugen’s “That You May Have Life.” Good Shepherd is located at 409 Fourth Ave. E in Polson. Bible study group meets through April 10

Free parenting course focuses on ‘Connecting with Your Kids’ through April 28

LAKE COUNTY — The Sunburst Community Service Foundation, is providing courses for parents. The courses are based on an early intervention program designed to enhance attachment security between parents and children.

The eight-week course, “Connecting with Your Kids,” will take place in Polson. The course is free but registration is required. Childcare will be available. Students who complete the course will receive a Circle of Security Certificate. The course will begin on Friday, March 7, and run eight weeks. Good Shepherd schedules Holy Week Services through April 20

POLSON — Several worship services are scheduled at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson during Holy Week.

The Maundy Thursday service, commemorating the Last Supper, will include a study, hymns and Holy Communion. The service begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Good Friday service on April 18 also begins at 6:30 p.m. Lessons and hymns reflect on the events occurring after the Last Supper through the time of Christ’s crucifixion.

Easter Sunday begins bright and early April 20, with a 7 a.m. sunrise service. The youth group will serve a hearty breakfast at 8 a.m. There is no charge for the meal; however, donations will be gratefully accepted and go toward the 2014 service trip to Bethlehem. Mission Valley Aquatics to hire, train lifeguards through April 6

POLSON — Mission Valley Aquatics is hiring lifeguards and swim instructors to fill morning and daytime shifts during the week. If you are 15 or older and looking for a great part-time or summer job, or a challenging career that’s in demand, this Red Cross Lifeguarding Program is the place to start. Course will be held Sundays and Wednesdays beginning March 9, with the final exam being held on April 6.
