‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Ninety minutes of building fun open to all

Watch Mars InSight landing at library

POLSON — On Monday, Nov. 26, at 12:45 p.m. the Mars InSight Landing Watch Party will take place at the North Lake County Library. This party will live stream NASA TV coverage as the Mars InSight Lander reaches the red planet. There will be popcorn. Library offers class on computer basics

POLSON — From 2-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, the North Lake County Library will hold the first part of a class on computer basics. This class will cover the absolute basics of starting out with a computer. You can come with your own device, borrow one from the library, or just follow along on the Smart Board. Learn how wetlands habitats are important

POLSON — “The Importance of Wetland Habitats for Wildlife and People” by Dennis Lichtenberg is the next Mission Mountain Audubon educational program and will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Polson library meeting room. Wetland acreage in the United States has declined drastically since European settlement. Dennis will discuss the reason for the loss of wetlands and the importance of these habitats for both wildlife and people. Dennis Lichtenberg is a Geographic Information System map maker, analyst, and contractor that teaches geography at Salish Kootenai College.

First Festival of Trees viewing event held

POLSON — The first annual Mission Valley Festival of Trees public viewing will take place on Friday, Nov. 30, from 7-9 p.m. after the Parade of Lights at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. The entry fee is $5 per family, and includes a hot cocoa bar, pictures with Santa (bring your camera), music, beautiful trees and wreaths. There will also be a special Friday night raffle. The Festival of Trees is made possible by the Mission Valley Youth Foundation, a non-profit organization. All proceeds benefit youth organizations in the Mission Valley. This is the first Festival of Trees public viewing in our 20 year history.

POLSON — Sunday, Dec. 2, is the date for Accordionists Association's Christmas party at the Elks on Main Street in Polson. Betty Carter has asked that everyone who can bring finger-food type snacks to share do so. This way we can all take some back to our tables to eat. Also, wear Christmas colors if you have them. Neither one is a requirement so please come. There will be plenty for everyone. The association members would love to be a part of your Christmas season. POLSON — Please join us for the community birthday dance in the ballroom at the Elks on Main Street on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 7-10 p.m. Music is by Ken’s Country Combo who play a variety of country and vintage rock and roll tunes. Snacks are provided during the break at 8:30 p.m. We will celebrate December birthdays with a special cake. Everyone is welcome. The birthday dance was moved to the first Wednesday in December due to our Christmas Party being on the third Wednesday in December. An Elks membership is not required. The cover charge is $5. Ease holiday stress with coloring experience

Give yourself the gift of an afternoon of coloring in the meeting room at the North Lake County Library, especially if you haven’t experienced coloring before. The mood is relaxed in good company.
