‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Dance canceled

POLSON — No community dance will be held at the Elks on Wednesday, Nov. 26, because of the Thanksgiving holiday. We will meet again for dancing on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Ken’s Country Combo will play their brand of tunes. Come and enjoy the fun and bring a treat to share with the group. Have a happy holiday and see you then.

Thanksgiving worship service planned for children

POLSON — On Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 6:30 p.m. Good Shepherd Lutheran will host worship entitled “Thanksgiving for Children.” The Pilgrims, the foods and the reasons for giving thanks will be explained in ways children can understand.  Beautiful traditional hymns will be sung. Bring your children to this 45-minute worship service. Both they, and you, may celebrate Thanksgiving the next day and every day, in a new way!The church is located at 409 Fourth Ave. E in Polson. RONAN — The eighth annual “Community Spirit Basket Fundraiser” event, sponsored by Community Bank, will take place between Nov. 3 and Dec. 11. Local businesses/ organizations from the community donate baskets of goods and raise funds for the Ronan and Polson Food Pantries. Raffle tickets will be sold at the front desk at either of the Ronan and Polson lobbies for $1 and placed in the basket of the purchaser’s choice. (Need not be present for drawing.) The drawing will take place on Thursday, Dec. 11, in conjunction with the Ronan Chamber Roundup held at Ronan Community Bank from 5–7 p.m. The basket drawing will be at 6 p.m. Call for additional details at (406) 676-4600.

Local author signs books

POLSON — Local author Cynthia Doll will be signing copies of her book, “The Sparrow’s Choice,” at Dawn’s Floral Designs, 318 Main Street, on Dec. 5 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Doll is a local author, and her historical novel is set in 1907 on the Nez Perce Reservation in Idaho.

Help available in Polson for health insurance enrollment

POLSON — Providence St. Joseph Medical Center will host a health insurance enrollment fair through Montana’s Health Insurance Marketplace on Saturday, Dec. 6 in the hospital lobby from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Although open enrollment began Saturday, Nov. 15 and runs through Feb. 15, 2015, those who wish their coverage to start Jan. 1, 2015 must enroll by Dec. 15, 2014.

Current Marketplace enrollees and those who are considering enrollment have many opportunities for assistance. Providence St. Patrick Hospital and CSKT Tribal Health have Certified Application Counselors on-staff to assist with individual enrollment.

Anyone who needs coverage in 2015, including those enrolled in 2014 coverage, should visit Healthcare.gov to review new plans, changes to premium rates, and to update household income information to ensure accurate tax credits for 2015.

Light a candle in remembrance

POLSON — On Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. Lake Funeral Home, (formerly Grogan Funeral Home), will hold a candle lighting memorial ceremony at St. Joseph Medical Center, 6 Thirteenth Ave. E. 

If you have ever lost someone special, join our afternoon gathering to light a candle in their memory. This warm ceremony will help you remember them in a uniquely personal way during this holiday season. A candle will be given to all attendees.
