‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Speaker shares Thailand experiences

POLSON — The Kiwanis Club meet the first and third Thursday of each month at the KwaTukNuk Resort, Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on Oct. 1 will be Billie Lee who was in an envoy from The Mansfield Center to Thailand. She will talk about her experience working with tribal elders and the economic development in the small communities of Thailand.

Come see pumpkins weighed

POLSON — On Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in Murdoch’s parking lot the annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off will take place. There will be 25-cent hamburgers and sodas for sale with all proceeds going to Mission Valley Mariners Baseball. The first annual Ranch Hand Competition (a timed obstacle course) will take place, as well as free knife sharpening and a drawing for a Traeger Pellet grill (value $700). There will also be kids' activities from the Boys and Girls Club. Come see if the pumpkin weight record gets broken.

Grammy winner to entertain

Museum highlights motorcycles

POLSON — Miracle of America Museum’s “Night at the Museum,” on Thursday, Oct. 8, will feature “The World’s Fastest Indian,” a feature-length movie followed by a tour of the rare Indian motorcycles in the MOAM collection. Octoberfest celebrated at Masumola Club

POLSON — The Masumola Club will hold an Oktoberfest on Thursday, Oct. 8. Guest speaker will be Gene Johnson, son of Marie Johnson and brother to members Helen McClellan and Lillian Stephenson. Marie fled Russia and settled in this area in the early part of the last century.  It’s an amazing story. The Masumola clubhouse sits on land donated by the Johnson family. If your last name ends in A-H bring a hot dish, thematic if you like; I-P a salad; Q-Z a dessert. Doug Wold reminds us to bring our own beer.

Pachyderms discuss U.S., world economics

POLSON — Dr. Richard D. Erb, professor of economics at University of Montana and former U.S. Director on the International Monetary Fund Executive Board, will be the guest speaker at the Friday, Oct. 9, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. He will answer the question, “Is the U.S. under economic attack from other world powers?” This subject is of huge relevance as we choose our leaders in the 2016 election. Pachyderms meet in the Polson Rural Fire Hall near the fairgrounds with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and a meeting from noon - 1 p.m.

Herb group to meet at library

POLSON – Thyme for Herbs meeting takes place on Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. in the North Lake County Public Library meeting room. 

The topic for the meeting will be: “What Ingredients to Avoid.” The discussion will include: preparing the herb garden for winter, harvesting seed, and preparing for the viruses of winter.
