RONAN — Rows and rows of quilts filled K. William Harvey Elementary School’s gym with color and pattern for the Mission Mountain Quilt Guild show July 31-Aug. 2.
The show’s theme was “A Quilter’s Heart.”
Featured quilter was Pat Anderson, a MMQG member who passed away in May. About 50 of Anderson’s quilts and wallhangings welcomed visitors to the free show.
Nancy Yonker, a visitor from the Seattle area, said she looks forward to seeing the show.
“It’s liking going to a revival,” she said, adding that she wants to go home and make some of the quilts she saw.
About 130 quilts and textile art items were entered this year, according to Rosa Tougas, MMQG president.
Peggy Olson made sunflower ribbons for the winning quilts, voted on by visitors to the show.
LaVon Grandy won a ribbon for her quilt made from 1930s reproduction fabrics and hand-quilted by Nancy Yoder.
For her quilt, Grandy said she tried to incorporate all the things she’s learned about quilting, such as intricate piecing, yo-yos, machine appliqué and even a place for “orphan blocks.”
Grandy said she’s a traditionalist because her mother handquilted all her work.
“My mother was what I’d call a master quilter,” Grandy said. “People would buy her quilts right off the beds.”
The MMQG raffled a quilt and a basket of fat quarters. Marilyn Grainey won the quilt, and Cathy Jensen took home the fat quarters.
The guild meets the first Tuesday of each month, beginning in September, at 7 p.m. at the Terrace Lake Community Church.
