POLSON — The 12th annual Polson Bay’s Water Daze 1.2-mile swim across Polson Bay will take place Saturday, Aug. 2. Registration opens at 10 a.m. at Boettcher Park. Transportation is provided from Boettcher Park to City Docks at 12:15 p.m., and the race starts at 1 p.m. sharp. The swim crosses Polson Bay and returns to Boettcher Park.
In addition to the race, there is a barbecue for all participants, water-related educational activities and children’s activities including a water slide and a free kid’s fun race. Last year, the kid’s race had great attendance due to the formation of the swim team.
This year organizers are expecting about 75 participants for the 1.2-mile race and 20-30 children in the kid’s event, according to Swim Coach Mark Johnston.
Proceeds support the Lake Monsters Swim Team based out of the Mission Valley Aquatic Center in Polson.
For the race’s first 10 years, proceeds from the event were raised to help build the state-of-the-art facility that opened last summer on Ridgewater Drive, just west off Polson Hill. The center includes and eight-lane, 25-yard pool, a warm water therapy pool, a community/dance room and a party room.
The pool offers open swimming seven days a week in addition to aqua classes and swim lessons.
