POLSON — Ever notice that the people who tell you to calm down are the ones who got you mad in the first place?
Max and Kathi Neeley, hailing from New Mexico and Texas respectively, came to Polson to enjoy the “good life” after retiring. The “good life” was enjoying Montana and the Flathead with his granddaughter; hosting fish fries; and escaping to California in the winter. You could have labeled them “snow birds.”
Finally settling in Polson permanently in 2005, Kathi became involved with the Area VI Agency on Aging. Recruiting Max as a volunteer was easy; Max is the one who is eager to step in where needed. Retirement doesn’t necessarily mean you quit working; you just don’t get paid and you work when you want to. I would dare to say Max probably has more on his plate these days than ever before. Kathi is also quite busy in her role coordinating volunteers and their various needs. She speaks with a delightful Texas accent.
Max is influential at the Polson Senior Center. He has been a board member for several years and served at community dinners, including the Senior Center’s Thanksgiving dinner. He is an active member of the Elks, volunteering there. He works at the Cherry Festival, the spay and neuter clinic and is a Trustee at Polson Community Church. He is a regular blood donor and considers that to be one of the most important donations he makes.
Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.
Our cook, Wanda, is back at work again after her recent bout with pneumonia. That’s good.

Last night I left my dentures under my pillow. The Tooth Fairy must have come because she left me a pile of Monopoly money with a note saying, “Nice try.”
