RONAN — A woman has died of injuries sustained in a July 9 rollover wreck that occurred six miles south of Ronan near Ninepipe Reservoir at 10:10 a.m.
Vivian Thompson, 77, of Missoula, died after being revived in the ambulance on the way to St. Luke Hospital in Ronan and flown to Kalispell Regional Hospital, Montana Highway Patrol Sergeant Randal Owens said.
Vivian was the passenger in a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck that was northbound on Highway 93 and drifted off the right side of the roadway, struck a field turnout, and went airborne. Owens said the truck hit the ground 100 feet from where it lifted off, with the front end of the pickup down, and did an end-over-end half-flip and landed upside down.
“It was a very violent crash,” Owens said.
Vivian and her husband, Raymond Thompson, 73, had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life.
Raymond was the driver of the vehicle and was flown to Kalispell Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Vivian and Raymond were both wearing their seatbelts and airbags did deploy, Owens said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
