POLSON — The Polson City Dock and the Bridge Pathway connecting Sacajawea and Riverside Parks are officially open.
Ken Avison, Polson businessman and Polson Redevelopment Agency chair, put together a grand opening on June 29.
A combined color guard of the Veteran Warrior Society and the Veterans Honor Guard presented the flags of the United States of America, the Flathead Nation and the State of Montana.
Elder Francis Stanger said a blessing and the drum played an honor song before Avison introduced dignitaries from the Polson Redevelopment Agency, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and the City of Polson. The three entities worked jointly on the projects.
Polson’s Mayor Heather Knutson and former Mayor Pat DeVries, who was mayor at the time the project began, cut the ribbons on both the dock and the walkway. Participants could walk out on the City Dock and then stroll along the shore and under the Armed Forces Memorial Bridge and have a piece of celebratory cake.
