The Polson Lakers 14U team crushed their opponents during the ASA State Championship in Great Falls on July 10, advancing to an overall record of 23-5 for the season and bringing home Polson’s first 14U state title. The Lakers placed in all earlier tournaments during the season with the exception of the Emerald’s Tournament in Kalispell. They defeated the Capital City Thunder 5-1 in the championship game, to earn the title of state’s best.
The Lakers began their ASA season off strong, finishing third in the Polson Splash Tournament, which was followed by a second place finish at Anaconda during the Smack the Stack contest.
The Lakers didn’t have much time to celebrate, as they traveled to Helena the following weekend, where they continued their success with another first place tournament win.
“(The win) gave the team some inspiration and confidence to compete at the state tournament two weeks ahead,” Coach Don Toth said.
The Lakers defeated the Great Falls Selects 4 - 1, the Great Falls (Electric City) Heat 8 - 7, the Frenchtown Fury 5 - 3, and the Capital City Thunder 5 – 1 to advance to the championship game. Polson Lakers 14U team is comprised of: Sarah Rausch, Skyla Krantz, Taylor Brackey, Lydia Dupuis, Kyrie Bitterman, Shelbi Mallon-Reid, Erin Sampson, Jaiden Toth, Kylie Murphy, and Kaelen Wall.
