Pirates place 4 on Class A All-State Team

Polson's basketball squads added a few more reasons to celebrate strong seasons this week as the Montana High School Association announced its All-State and All-Conference selections for Class A.

Both the Pirates and Lady Pirates placed a pair of players on the All-State team for the 2010-2011 season as Louis Mohr and Kyle Bagnell made the squad for the boys while Breanne Kelley and Riley Kenney were named All-State girls players.

Mohr, who was also named the Northwestern A Conference Co-MVP (along with Columbia Falls player Nick Emerson), had a spectacular senior season for the Pirates, leading the Northwest Conference in scoring (18.89 ppg), rebounding (7.67 rpg), made threes (34) and was tied for the conference lead in steals (3.11 spg). Mohr was also second in assists in the conference at 4.17 per contest.

Bagnell finished second in the conference in made threes (32), was third in the free throw shooting at 76 percent and was fourth in scoring (14.33 ppg), rebounding (6.17 rpg) and steals (2.44 spg).

Both Kelley and Kenney had great seasons for the Lady Pirates as Kelley finished second in the conference in steals (3.61 spg), third in made threes (17), fourth in scoring (12.61 ppg), blocks (8) and assists (2 apg) and was fifth in rebounding at 6.44 per contest.

Kenney finished the season third in the conference in a trio of statistical categories as she was third in free throw shooting (73.5 percent), scoring (13.83 ppg) and rebounding (7.61 rpg).

Along with their All-State honors, Mohr, Bagnell, Kelley and Kenney were all also named to their All-Conference First Team squads.

The Pirates also placed two players on the All-Conference Second Team as Sheldon Fisher and Tyler Krell made the team.

Fisher finished the season tied for the conference lead in 3-point shooting at 41 percent while Krell led the conference in charges takes with 10 and was second in blocked shots with 35.

Along with Kelley and Kenney, Jonna Grant was also named to the All-Conference Team, making the squad as a Second-Team member.

The Ronan Chiefs placed three players on the boys All-Conference team as Justin Dustybull was named to the Second Team while Lucas Black and Kevin Wroblewski were named Honorable Mention members.

Dustybull finished tied for the conference lead in steals with 56 this season while Wroblewski was first in free throw shooting at 81 percent, fifth in 3-pointers made with 28 and fifth in scoring at 10.7 points-per-game.

The Maidens also had three players named to the All-Conference team as Tailyr Irvine was named to the Second Team while Courtney Clairmont and Alice VanGunten were Honorable Mention selections.

VanGunten led the conference in free throw shooting at 80 percent this season while Clairmont was fourth in made threes with 12.
