POLSON – Polson high school’s field was abuzz on Saturday as teams from Corvallis, Browning, Stevensville, Hamilton, Whitefish, Frenchtown, and Columbia Falls joined the Pirates and Lady Pirates in a track and field showdown.
The Lady Pirates placed third overall with a team score of 82.5. Although no Lady Pirate found a first place finish, Claudia Hewston, Tiara Duford, and Chloie Huerta each grabbed second. Hewston finished second in the 800 meter with a time of 2:28:4, Duford in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00:3, and Huerta took second in shot put throwing 35-0. Huerta also placed third in discus along with other third placers Madison Wheeler (300 hurdles), Mariah Corrigan (javelin), and Kidron Lee (high jump). Coming in at fourth was Duford (100 meter), Gracie Carlyle (long jump), Lydia Bowman (200 meter), and Erica Alfiero (100 hurdles). The Lady Pirates relay team took third in the 400 meter relay.
For the boys, the Pirates came in at fourth overall with a team score of 68. Pirate Andrew Weltz was the lone first placer landing 19-10 in the long jump and securing the number one spot. Weltz also placed fourth in the triple jump. Jacob Clairmont took second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15:85 and third in pole vault clearing 12-0. Other third place finishers include Jared Rubel (300 hurdles, pole vault) and Joey Mullen (javelin). Finishing fourth for the Pirates were Frank Pope (400 meter) and Mike Corrigan (discus). The Pirate relay teams placed third in the 400 meter relay and fourth in the 1600.
Polson will head to Divisionals hosted in Frenchtown May 23-24.
