Both the Chiefs and Pirates made a strong showing at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic wrestling tournament in Missoula over the weekend as Polson earned a 12th-place finish while Ronan came in 15th.
Ronan's Toby Cheff was the only individual champion from the two schools at the tournament as he won the 189-pound weight class with a 9-1 decision over University High's Dustin Johnson in the championship round Saturday.
Polson had a trio of third-place winners as Craig Feistner, Jake Young and Josiah Clairmont all came in third. Feistner was third in the 112-pound division with a 7-2 decision over Glacier's Alek Mitchell on Saturday. Young won third in the 135-pound weight class with a 7-2
decision over Bozeman's Riley Berry while Clairmont picked up an 11-4 decision over Big Sky's Chad Sickles to finish third in the heavyweight division.
Ronan's Cole McArthur finished fifth in the 171-pound division with an 11-0 major decision over Hamilton's Troy Capp while Polson's Carlos Quinones was seventh in the 98-pound division with a 4-0 decision over Couer D'Alene's Chase Lincoln.
Pirate Dylan Mill was also seventh in the 105-pound division as he won via disqualification in the seventh-place match.
In other action, the Chiefs picked up a 39-30 win over Libby Tuesday as Jake Stenstrom, Dustin Goldsby, McArthur and Colby Roberts all picked up pins. Brandon Dumont also picked up a 7-4 decision for the Chiefs.
Ronan will have a full upcoming week as the Chiefs take on Big Sky Tuesday, host Columbia Falls for Senior Night Thursday and compete at the Class A Duals at Belgrade Friday and Saturday.
Polson will be at Libby Tuesday before wrestling a double header Friday beginning at Whitefish at 4:30 p.m. and continuing at Columbia Falls at 6:30 p.m.
