POLSON — Multiple businesses in the Polson area have accepted counterfeit money recently. Business owners have been urged to protect their businesses and be on the lookout for these recognizable signs:
• All bills being spent are reported to have been $20 dollar bills, and all of these $20s have the same serial number on them: JE07901424E
• There is no security strip inside the $20s and there is no hologram.
The Polson Police Department recommends that businesses use counterfeit pens, especially on bigger denomination bills, such as 20s, 50s and 100s and larger, according to Polson Police Officer Cory Anderson.
“Obviously there is a different feel to the bills, too,” Anderson said.
The counterfeit bills are under continuing investigation by Polson Police and the FBI.
If a business finds that they have accepted these counterfeit bills or if the bills look or feel odd, they should call the police. Anderson recommended not confronting the person paying with the suspected bill.
