FRENCHTOWN – The Chiefs and Maidens struggled to grab top spots at the Frenchtown invitational track and field meet on Thursday. The Chiefs came away with a team score of 29, placing them in seventh out of eight teams participating while the Maidens finished in fifth with a score of 27.
Despite the low scores for the day, Chief Lucas Gerhardt trumped the Chiefs’ bad luck, grabbing first in shot put by throwing 51’3” and second in javelin by tossing 174.5’. Connor Benn placed third in the pole vault and Bryce Cullen grabbed a fourth place finish in long jump.
Though the Maidens faired a bit better in the team scoring, they had a tough time busting into the top four individually. Sydnee Clairmont placed the highest for the Maidens, taking home third in the long jump, landing 14’9.5” while Ally Buhr finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 4’10”. Maiden teams also placed fourth in both the 400 and 1600 relays.
The Chiefs and Maidens are preparing for a busy week with meets in Missoula on April 25, Whitefish on April 26, and back to Missoula on April 29.
