Council approves property acquisition

RONAN — On April 7 Ronan City Council accepted the donation of two empty lots and a building located on Main Street.
The city will have to pay back taxes on the property, which total more than $7,000.
The Bilile property includes the empty parking spaces located at the northeast corner of Main Street and Third Avenue.
Councilmember Roger Romero said there is a renter interested in leasing the property from the city in the future.
The city has an April 30 deadline ticking against acquisition of the property. Another party has filed a tax lien against the building.
In other business:
• The council approved refinancing of a loan that will save the town approximately $30,000 over the life of the loan, according to City Clerk Kaylene Melton.
• The council set committee meetings to discuss revision of hiring procedures for police officers and possible elimination of the Ronan Parks and Recreation Board.
