BOZEMAN – Montana teachers can apply for scholarships to enroll in a summer online Native American Studies course from Montana State University. The scholarship will cover all tuition and textbooks and teachers who complete the course will receive three graduate credits from Montana State University.
The course, “Indian Education for All: A Model for Culturally Responsive Pedagogy in Practice,” is designed for Montana educators who have a commitment to teaching historic and contemporary American Indian issues and embracing a multicultural education approach.
The course helps educators better understand the goals of Indian Education for All (IEFA) and explore how to implement this transformative educational policy.
The course runs from May 4 through July 12. Scholarship participants will be required to participate in a conference in Bozeman in June 2015, for which all travel expenses and a $500 stipend will be included.
Instructor Jioanna Carjuzaa of MSU’s Education Department has more than 20 years teaching experience as a multicultural teacher educator, diversity trainer, and English for Academic Purposes (ESP-Business) instructor and has offered numerous graduate courses, including Indigenous Research Methodologies and American Indian Studies for Teachers.
