Scarlets finish with heartbreak

BUTTE – After a dominating whirlwind of a season and a sweep of the 14-C District Tournament, the Scarlets had one more hurdle to jump before making it to State: to place top two at the Divisional Tournament.
Unfortunately the ball dropped for the Scarlets and they were forced to walk away, ending their season with two heartbreaking divisional losses.
On Wednesday, the Scarlets opened up their divisional play with a loss against Shields Valley, 45-72. Whitney Malatare netted 19 points for the Scarlets while Alicia Camel and Violet Pablo each added eight.
Friday’s loser-out contest was an all-out fight but ended in a devastating defeat for the Scarlets as they took Drummond into double overtime, but were unable to come up with enough in the end, tumbling to a 58-64 loss. Whitney Malatare led in points with 21 and Pablo chipped in 13.
The Scarlets finised their winning season 16-6 with two first-place honors in conference and in district.
