Locals to wrestle at National Championship

LAKE COUNTY — Four Lake County athletes who have gone on to wrestle for NAIA colleges have qualified to compete in the NAIA National Championships to be held March 7-8 in Topeka, Kansas.
Ronan’s Cameron Neiss, Edward Cheff and Toby Cheff all wrestle for Montana State-Northern in Havre, and Brock Picard of Polson is grappling for the University of Great Falls.
Neiss, a college senior, will wrestle at 141 with a win-loss record of 34-7. Neiss is also an All-American and an academic All-American. Last year, he placed second at Nationals. While a student at Ronan High School, Neiss won two state championships and had a 41-0 record as a senior. His major is Health Promotion.
Micky Cheff, a college junior with a business major, will wrestle at 157. Also an All-American, he brings a 19-5 record to the championship meet. He also was a state champion while wrestling for the Ronan Chiefs.
Toby Cheff, a sophomore, has 22-3 record wrestling at 197. At last year’s Nationals, Toby placed third in his weight class. He won back-to-back state titles as a high school junior and senior for the Chiefs. Toby, younger brother of Micky, is a business management major.
From Polson, Brock Picard will go the Nationals wrestling for the University of Great Falls as a junior in the 165 weight class. At Polson High, Picard lettered all four years in football, wrestling and track. He holds all-state honors in football and track, and is a three-time state championship wrestler.
