Only two more weeks until spring. Next summer when we are in the middle of a heat wave and drought we will look back on this winter and think, “Those were the good old days.”

We had 43 hearty seniors join us for our birthday dinner last Friday.

This just proves that when the going gets tough, the tough go to the Senior Citizens Center for lunch. This is just one of the many reasons that we need to keep the Lake County senior centers open. We have gathered enough signatures to get the mil levy on the ballot in the June election and we are asking that you vote for it. There are six senior citizens centers in Lake County and the money that this mil levy could provide is very important to keeping the centers open and functioning. The money will also help the Council on Aging provide their many services to the county’s senior citizens.

Don’t forget to “spring ahead” on the ninth as that is when the time-change happens.

Our Thursday evening meal is on March 13 and we will serve roast pork. The cost of this meal is only $5 and it is well worth the money. We start serving at 5 p.m. and all are invited to attend.

Cards will be played here at 1 p.m., on Monday, March 17 and the foot clinic will be here from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, March 19.

We will serve corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day.

Our birthday dinner for March will be on Friday, March 28.

Lent starts this month and we have had several requests to serve non-meat meals so some additions to our regular meals have been made in order to make this happen.

Our menu for the next two weeks is:

Wednesday, March 5: potato bar

Friday, March 7: sloppy Joes and tuna/egg salad sandwiches

Monday, March 10: hot roast beef sandwiches

Wednesday, March 12: enchiladas

Thursday, March 13: pork roast at 5 p.m.

Friday, March 14: fish

Our meals are served at noon, and the cost is $4 if you are 60 or over and $5 if you are under 60.

Have a great week, and remember to drive carefully and watch out for ice when you are walking.
