RONAN – Ryan Pablo, a Ronan High School senior, is locked in and ready and to take to the baseball diamond in Glendive after signing his letter of intent to become a Buccaneer at Dawson Community College.
Pablo will be studying physical education with aspirations to transfer to a four-year college and apply his degree to becoming a personal trainer.
But baseball has really been the goal for Pablo all along.
“I’ve known I wanted to play baseball forever, since I was a kid,” he said. “Most kids want to go to the ‘bigs,’ but I knew it wasn’t really realistic. College ball was always the goal.”
Pablo recently lost his father, also a baseball lover, which has fueled Pablo’s fight for his future even more.
“I can’t let that affect my future, he wouldn’t want me to give up,” Pablo said, keeping his chin held high. “The sun wouldn’t feel so good if it wasn’t for rain.”
As the third baseman for the Mission Valley Mariners for the last two years, Pablo is now gearing up to play his third and final season. Playing for the Mariners has prepared him for college level play, he said, and in choosing Dawson he will join teammates that are already playing ball as Buccaneers. “I’m excited to get my start with (Coach Aaron) Carroll,” Pablo said about Dawson’s veteran college coach. “I just don’t want to stop playing ball.”
