RONAN — Teams from all over western Montana converged on the Ronan Event Center, RHS High School gym and K.W. Harvey Elementary gym for two days of furious five-on-five basketball last weekend.
The Mission Valley Cage Tournament, held June 18-19, included boys’ and girls’ varsity and sub-varsity squads in Orange and Black Class A pools, as well as a Red Class B/C pool.
There were 64 games played by the teams over the two days.
Teams came from as far away as Browning to the north and Twin Bridges to the south, with the largest school represented by Class AA Glaicer High.
Both Ronan and Twin Bridges went 4-0 to win their pools. Columbia Falls’ boys also were undefeated at 5-0. Polson’s boys went 1-4 with a win over St. Ignatius. The Mission boys finished 1-4 with a win over Darby.
Both Ronan and Polson had girls’ teams in the tournament. Ronan went 2-3 with wins over Darby and Plains, while the Polson girls finished 3-2 with overtime losses to Bigfork and Florence.
Proceeds from the tournament went to the Ronan High School basketball programs.
