The Lady Vikings have been a dominating force on the basketball court, and with their eyes set on the path of victory, the team has big plans.

“Of course we want to win it all,” Head Coach Bret Thompson said.

Even though the Lady Vikings are crushing it with a 10-2 season record, holding the top spot is not so easy, according to Thompson. “It takes a lot of hard work,” he said.

Winning is what motivates; staying in shape is what keeps the Lady Vikings on top.

“Our number one goal is to finish the season healthy,” Thompson said.

Having a week like this last is tough for a team that is used to pulling wins around like an empty Radio Flyer. The Lady Vikings took a loss and just barely pulled one out in overtime. On Thursday Charlo faltered to St. Regis on the Lady Tigers’ court 34-48. Jordan Ludeman and Skylar Frame combined to net 18, nine apiece, while Aspen Runkel led with 10.

Emotions ran high both on the bench and in the bleachers as the Lady Vikings were challenged on Friday as Mission’s Lady Bulldogs brought it into overtime in “Viking country.” Ludeman led her team scoring 12 in the 41-35 squeaker.

Ludeman and Runkel have put up some impressive scores for their team, and both show leadership among the girls.

“They know what to do,” Thompson said. “They know what is being expected of them. Those two do a good job and the other girls look up to them.”

As far as stats are concerned, Thompson said, “We’re pretty even across the board,” with everybody pitching in and doing their part.

With a chance to be number one in conference and possibly having a good run in the post season, Coach Thompson is pleased with the Lady Vikings’ progress.

“This group is fun to work with,” he said. “We have a lot of teams to get through; it’s going to take a lot of hard work.”

The Lady Vikings will continue their winning quest Jan. 30 as they take on Stillwater Christian in Kalispell. Then they’ll host two home games over the weekend, battling Two Eagle River’s Lady Eagles Jan. 31 and Noxon Feb.1
