POLSON — James Raymond resigned as Polson’s city attorney on Thursday, Dec. 26, after a “confidential settlement agreement” was reached in a special Dec. 23 executive session of the Polson City Commissioners.
Commissioners spent more than two hours in executive session, with separate legal counsel exiting periodically to meet with Raymond’s attorney Chuck Wall before announcing the decision.
Raymond’s contract, which would have expired in June, contained a clause stipulating the city must give him six month’s notice if he was not going to be rehired.
“We would like to thank Mr. Raymond for his many years of service,” Mayor Pat DeVries said after the council unanimously voted to accept Raymond’s resignation.
Raymond has held a contract position as city attorney since 1998. He was not rehired as Ronan city attorney in 2013, a position he had held since 2006. Raymond unsuccessfully applied for the position of District Judge in 2013 and ran a failed campaign for Justice of the Peace in 2012.
