RONAN – With a young team boasting only three seniors, the Chiefs are on a mission to prove age is just a number on the basketball court. The Chiefs split in their opening tip-off weekend and head coach Steve Woll is smiling. “I’m happy with the split,” he said. “It’s a young team.”
On Friday the Chiefs met Libby at home toppling the Loggers 64-55. After falling behind in the first quarter, the Chiefs pulled out hyper-drive with the help of Tim Woll and Alex Quequesah, who each netted 20 for Ronan.
“Timmy shows leaderships at both ends for us,” Woll said. “Alex played well, he did some good things.”
Although Woll and Quequesah show leadership amongst their team, Coach Woll is growing new talent in his ranks. “We need to find out what roles the others are in,” he said.
Game two in the non-conference tourney pitted the Chiefs against Bigfork ending in a 37-70 loss for the Chiefs. Tim Woll provided eight points for his team and Rhett Duffey snagged seven.
Though Coach Woll believes they are suffering “growing pains,” he is looking forward to next week’s conference games. “We got to see what we’ll do before conference,” he said. “So we can fix things.”
All in all Chiefs basketball has high hopes. “We need to show a short memory, keep up morale,” Woll said. “We’ll prepare and come to play. We’re a work in progress and we’ll see where this takes us, it will be fun.”
The Chiefs will host Florence Dec. 20 and Eureka Dec. 21.
