POLSON —  Results of a mail election polling Flathead Indian Irrigation Project irrigators have been canvassed and the final figures are close — 36,593 for and 36,588 against.

Irrigators may have one to several hundred votes based on how many irrigable acres they own.

The irrigators voted on whether Flathead Joint Board of Control commissioners who wish to withdraw their districts from the FJBC first conduct a referendum of the fee land irrigators they represent. The results have been canvassed, and 48.76 percent of all irrigators voted, according to the Lake County Election Office.

In the Flathead district, 28,757 voted for and 30,116 against for a total of 52.9 percent of total land parcel owners voting.

In the Mission district, there were 5,516 votes for and 4,699 against the resolution for a total of 52.6 percent.

In the Jocko, 2,320 cast their ballots for and 1,773 against with 40.8 percent of total parcels mailing in their ballots.
