POLSON — School buses leaving Linderman Elementary School to pick up children at other schools have been bottlenecked at Fifth Avenue E. and First Street E. in Polson because there is no stop sign at the intersection. Lake County employees have also had trouble crossing to the Information Technology offices kitty-corner from the courthouse.
Street Superintendent Terry Gembala has a plan — place stop signs to make a four-way stop.
“It’s a very busy intersection with school kids, the general public and county foot traffic,” Gembala said.
A new stop sign, including the pole, costs approximately $100, then add labor to install the octagonal sign and it ends up costing about $300 per sign.
Lake County Commissioner Ann Brower has made it her cause and said Lake County will help out, providing the poles and signs.
Although Gembala is not in favor of more signage, it’s a safety issue, he said, and benefits the citizens.
