Deer Lodge ends Lady Bulldogs’ State run

HAMILTON — The Mission girls’ basketball team went 0-2 in Divisional Tournament play at Dale Berry Court in Hamilton Feb. 23 and 24.
The Lady Bulldogs were outscored in every quarter by the Bigfork Vals in the opening game Feb. 23 and lost 44-24.
Bigfork’s Taylor Peck and Melissa VanDerveer scored 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and a team-high seven rebounds. The Vals led at halftime 24-12 and outpaced the Lady Bulldogs 10-5 in the third and 10-5 in the fourth quarter.
Stephanie Lewandowski and Cecelia Koskela each sank seven points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
After the loss, the Lady Bulldogs dropped down to face off against the Deer Lodge Lady Wardens Feb. 24 in a loser-out game.
But Deer Lodge wasn’t ready to go home just yet and came out fast against Mission, leading the Lady Bulldogs 37-8 at halftime.
The Lady Warden’s Bailee Senecal had a team-high 11 points and four assists, while Lewandowski, who scored the majority of her team’s points with 14, paced Mission.
The Bigfork Vals, the first team to tangle with Mission, made it to the championship round of the Western B Divisional Tournament, losing 48-39 to Loyola.
Loyola advances to the State B Tournament March 8-10 in Hamilton. Bigfork plays a challenge game Feb. 27 in Hamilton against Deer Lodge.
The Mission Lady Bulldogs end their season with a 6-17 record.
