The Flathead Joint Board of Control passed Resolution 2013-5, which requested that any irrigation district whose commissioners desire to withdraw from the FJBC first conduct a referendum of the fee land irrigators they represent.
Irrigators within the Flathead Indian Irrigation Project may vote on this referendum.
The lawyers for two of the three commissioners from the Mission and Jocko Valley Irrigation District recently challenged this referendum, but Lake County rejected that challenge. Those Mission and Jocko Valley commissioners have threatened legal action to stop the Referendum.
The Lake County Elections Administrator will conduct a mail-in ballot for the FJBC, mailing the ballots out on Oct. 25. The ballots must be returned to the Election Administrator by Nov. 19.
