PABLO — The Salish Kootenai College nursing program received a $1.75 million dollar grant (NU11IHS0043-06-00) from the Department of Health and Human Services and Indian Health Services. The funds will be used to initiate project American Indians into Nursing. This project seeks to increase nursing education opportunities for enrolled Tribal members. This program will help Salish Kootenai College increase the number of American Indian/Alaska Native nursing students and nurses who deliver health care services to native populations and reservation communities. The grant will provide funds for tutoring and retention of present and future Associates of Science in Nursing and Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing students enrolled at Salish Kootenai College. Salish Kootenai College Nursing program, established in 1988, leads the nation in graduating Native American Registered Nurses.
