It was an up and down week for the Warriors as Arlee suffered a close loss at Mission Friday before bouncing back with a blowout win Saturday.
The Warriors were able to erase a 10-point halftime deficit at Mission Friday but saw the game slip away in the final seconds as the Warriors fell 46-41.
Both teams struggled to find the basket in the game's opening quarter as the contest was knotted at two after eight minutes of play. Mission began to open up a lead in the second frame, going up by 10 at the first half buzzer on a three by Nikko Alexander, 18-8.
The Warriors came alive to open the third frame, going on a 16-5 run to take their first lead of the contest at 24-23 on a three by Kasey Bridgewater with 2:44 to play in the frame. Arlee pushed the run to 22-5 as the Warriors took a 30-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
It was Mission's turn to go on a run at the beginning of the fourth as the Bulldogs scored the first 11 points of the frame to take a 33-30 advantage. Bridgewater ended the run with a three to cut the lead to one. Mission answered with a pair of baskets to go up 38-33 but Bridgewater cut the lead to two with another three with 2:11 to play.
Bridgewater had a chance to cut the lead to two but missed a pair of free throws with 1:15 to play but Trae Burland sank a jumper seconds later to leave Arlee down 40-38. The Bulldogs were able to make their free throws down the stretch, though, as Mission held off the Warriors to get the win.
Bridgewater led the Warriors in the loss with 14 points while Junior Sansavere added 10.
Arlee bounced back with a big win Saturday as the Warriors blasted St. Regis, 76-14. The game was over in the opening quarter as the Warriors built a commanding 32-6 lead after eight minutes of play. The lead only grew from there as Arlee outscored St. Regis 44-8 over the final 24 minutes of action.
Four Warriors scored in double figures, led by Sansavere with 15 points. Burland added 13 points, Bridgewater had 12 and Jesse Pfau added 11.
Whitney Malatare and Kristyn Adams led the Scarlets to big win Saturday as Arlee picked up a 61-20 win over visiting St. Regis.
Malatare scored 10 of her game-high 20 in the opening quarter and added another eight in the third while Adams added 16 points in the 41-point victory.
Arlee scored 22 points and held St. Regis to just six in the opening quarter before pushing the lead to 33-9 at the half. The Scarlets continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring St. Regis 28-11 over the final 16 minutes of play. St. Regis finished the game with just three players as two of the five girls on their roster fouled out of the contest.
Malatare's 20 and Adams' 16 led the way for Arlee in the win while Tayla Desjarlais added eight, Tiffany O'Neill had six, Becca Nelson scored five and Karleigh Bolin, Skyla Perry and Eva Beberly each added two points in the victory.
With the win, the Scarlets improve to 3-2 in district and 4-6 overall.
