POLSON — With a short agenda, the Polson City Commissioners breezed through their meeting on Sept. 4.

They passed resolution No. 1048, to participate in the State of Montana 457(b) adoption agreement, deferred compensation plan administered by the Montana Public Employee Retirement Administration and authorized Sargeant to sign the adoption agreement. This will allow city employees to participate in the deferred compensation plan.

Interim City Manager Karen Sargeant said no one told her when she first was employed by the city that she had one year to apply for PERS. Now she can join the program, which is voluntary and requires no matching funds from the city.

The commission also passed Ordinance No. 667, to allow the Polson Police Department to participate in the Municipal Police Officers Retirement System.

During city manager comments, Sargeant noted that the Polson Fire Department’s chili won first overall, and second place in people’s choice awards at the Rotary Festival for Youth chili cook-off contest.

The new walkway connecting Riverside and Sacajawea Parks is underway, and McCrumb Construction will be driving piling there and at the old city dock.

Sargeant also said the five finalists for Polson City Manager will be in town for a meet-and-greet at the Polson Bay Golf Course restaurant Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

The finalists are: Rodger Bennett, John “Jack” Cameron, Mark Glover, Mark Shrives and Bruce Snell.

Bennett, most recently was the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe Chief Financial Officer and currently resides in Florence, Ore.; John “Jack” Cameron, who currently is administrator for the Village of Evendale, Ohio; Mark Glover, from Temple Terrace, Fla., and president and founder of Government Performance Network Corporation; Mark Shrives, most recently the City Administrator for Creswell, Ore., where he lives; and Bruce Snell, who is the Court Administrator for Warren County Court in Lebanon, Ohio.

Comment cards will be available for the public to fill out. For more information, short biographies are available on the city’s website, www.cityofpolson.org.

The city commissioners and search committee reviewed the eight semi-finalist’s applications and discussed several of the other 29 applications before narrowing it down to the five finalists.

Andrew Speer and Elsa Duford said the public should be allowed to attend the interviews, and as of Sept. 9, Sargeant said the public will be allowed to attend the city commission interviews as observers only.

The next commission meeting will be held on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in city hall.
