ARLEE — The Warriors basketball team is gaining experience one game at a time.
Arlee lost its first game against the Drummond Trojans 60-73 at the Drummond tournament Dec. 9-10 but came out strong the next day, destroying Seeley-Swan 55-23.
Head coach Dustin Keltner said this was the first time seven of his players saw varsity time. Even though it’s an inexperienced team, Keltner was pleased with his team’s improved performance against Seeley-Swan.
“Our style of basketball was more consistent as the game progressed,” Keltner said. “We love to push the ball.”
This was a big improvement from the game against Drummond. Keltner thought his team played passively, but will learn to be more aggressive as the season progresses.
The Warriors return one starter, senior Junior Sansavere, from last season's State Class C runner-up team.
In their first game, four players scored in the double digits. Sansavere and Sam Nelson scored 10 points each against Drummond and 12 points against Seeley-Swan. Mark Fullerton had 10 and Justin Adams 12. In the Seeley-Swan game, Adams scored 13 and Josh Reed tallied 10.
“It was well-balanced scoring,” Keltner said. “We got better, and that’s what it’s about.
The boys travel to Superior on Friday.
