Fire trustees' article misleading

Editor,
In a recent opinion article (Valley Journal, June 1, p. 14) "Trustees address accident response fee issues," the Polson Rural Fire District trustees stated, “it was fair and reasonable to ask those utilizing this (crash response) service to contribute toward it and not place that burden on the taxpayers of this district alone.”
In fact, as the 2011-12 budget will show, the cost burden of the crash response services will be paid by the taxpayers of this district alone. Crash fees collected do not help pay for the operational cost of providing this service. The crash fees will be deposited in a reserve account (sometimes referred to as a “slush” fund) and may be used for anything – without requiring approval of the voters.
I would like to thank the trustees for clarifying the "large amount of misinformation (that) has been disseminated".
Tom Eddy
