WHITEFISH – Despite missing senior quarterback Vince DiGiallonardo, who sat out due to injury as a precaution, the Polson Pirate football team was able to continue its winning ways, downing Whitefish 53-32 on the road. Backup quarterback Will Davey helped his team remain perfect at 5-0 during the conference battle.
Davey completed five of his eight attempts for 113 yards, including three touchdowns. He amassed 108 yards on the ground rushing.
During the first quarter, Davey hit Ian Laimbeer for a 36-yard touchdown for Laimbeer’s first of two touchdown receptions of the night. Laimbeer’s second score came in the second quarter on a 60-yard completion.
By the end of the first half, the Pirates built a 27-14 lead.
According to head coach Scott Wilson, his offensive line played a key role in helping out Davey.
“Our offensive line played outstanding,” Wilson said.
The Pirates took control of the game when they blew up the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, racking up 20 points. Davey scored on runs of 1 and 18 yards, with Colton Lenz capping off the scoring for Polson with a 9-yard run.
With the win, Polson improved to a perfect 5-0, while Whitefish fell to 2-3.
Next week is homecoming for the Pirates, where they will play the Frenchtown Broncs.
