POLSON — The Mission Valley Mariners took two wins from the A Kalispell Lakers Tuesday, June 18, bringing their conference record to 5-1.
In game one the Mariners refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against the Lakers, bringing an 11-1 victory in front of a home crowd in Polson.
Seven runs in the first three innings allowed the Mariners to put the game away early. The team remained disciplined and patient at the plate recording 10 hits and five walks.
Brennan Andrews was hot at the dish, getting a hit in each of his three at bats. He tripled in the third and singled in the first and fourth innings.
Kellen Hoyt got the win for the Mariners. He allowed one run over four innings. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered three hits. Jared Young finished up allowing the Mariners to end it after five innings.
Game two brought a battle as the Mariners beat the Lakers 6-5.
Jeremiah Crawford got the start for the Mariners throwing six innings. Crawford struck out two, walked five, gave up four hits and only one earned run. T.J. Olson came in for the close in the seventh inning. After a couple of errors put the Lakers on board with a tie, Olson worked it out and got the win for the Mariners.
An RBI single off the bat of Zeke Webster-Yaqui pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
