RONAN — Jon Lozeau, 22, suspected of allegedly stabbing a Ronan man, has been released on bond, Ronan Assistant Police Chief Art Walgren said.

In an ongoing investigation with the Ronan Police Department, Lozeau also informed investigators of his participation in a gang that reportedly has members in South Dakota, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana.

According to Walgren, Lozeau doesn’t have a permanent residence and drifts between Ronan and Washington.

Lozeau was allegedly hiding behind Gardner Apartments on the night of Oct. 2, when police believe he attacked John Allen, 18, who was walking through the alley. Allen was listening to music and didn’t hear the attacker, Walgren said.

According to police, Allen reportedly felt a sharp throb and didn’t retaliate, realizing only later that he was bleeding from the chest.

The victim ran to his grandmother’s house a few blocks away and was transported to St. Luke Community Hospital for treatment. He was released shortly after being treated for minor puncture injuries to the fatty tissue in his chest.

Lozeau was arrested at a relative’s house in the Pache area of Ronan, whereupon law enforcement officers noted he was intoxicated.

Police believe the altercation stemmed from a family feud between relatives of Lozeau and Allen.

Walgren explained that relatives of Allen believed Lozeau’s family laughed at them during a domestic abuse court appearance between two members of the opposite families who were formerly in a relationship.

According to police, the incident is not the first altercation between the two men. Walgren noted both the suspect and victim have extensive histories with law enforcement agencies.

Lozeau has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Arraignment has been set for Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. in Lake County District Court.
