POLSON – DOVES honored four community members who are “Taking a Stand Against Domestic Violence” during an Oct. 20 award ceremony.
Mark Calhoun, pastor at the United Methodist Church, received the award for Community Volunteer Agency. The church hosts an evening with mothers and children.
Syndee Hunter was chosen as Community Volunteer of the Year. Hunter works with a children’s group at DOVES.
Ed Leas, PAC, was honored as the Health Professional of the Year. Leas works at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
“People feel safe in the emergency room and the exam room,” Reverend John Payne said as he introduced Leas. “DOVES found a friend in Ed Leas.”
DOVES chose Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Jay Gillhouse as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
In a press release, DOVES said that the “ceremony is in recognition of individuals who have shown a dedication to serving victims of relationship violence, holding perpetrators accountable and preventing future violence.”
