Lady Pirate softball continues to sail on, picking up four victories last week.

On April 30, Polson beat Western AA leader Glacier High at home 13-8. Glacier started strong with a two-run first inning but the Lady Pirates responded in the bottom of the inning with seven runs and never relinquished the lead throughout. Glacier continued to score, but Polson was able to answer every run by the Wolf Pack.

Martina Marquardt led the 22-hit attack by the Lady Pirates, going 4 for 4 with a three-run home run in the first and a total five-RBI game performance, followed by Jessica Bagnell (4-5 and two RBIs) and Heidi Rausch (3-4 with three RBIs).

“(This was) a great win for us against a very strong team leading us into our Thursday night game at conference rival Frenchtown,” head coach Larry Smith said.

The Lady Pirates beat Frenchtown 11-6. Polson bats continued to hit away at the best pitchers in the state in the eight-run second inning after allowing the Broncs one run in the first inning. Frenchtown picked away at the lead in the fifth and seventh, but once again, Polson finished strong to score in the sixth and seventh to close out the game. Shalaina Duford pitched well, scattering the Broncs’ eight hits and not allowing a huge inning. Sweeping Frenchtown in conference play gives Polson some breathing room at the top, at 5-0 with both Frenchtown and Columbia Falls with two conference losses apiece.

On Saturday, Polson hosted a doubleheader against Hamilton and Corvallis, winning both games, 9-1 and 24-0. Against Hamilton, Duford pitched well by striking out eight, allowing a single walk and batting 2-3 with a double. Jaylin Kenney was 3-4, scoring three times.

“Our defense had no errors, a very positive improvement,” Smith noted.

Duford pitched a no-hit shutout against Corvallis. Every Lady Pirate batter hit the ball for 16 hits led by Bagnell (3-5) and Rausch with two doubles and three RBIs — “a very successful week for the Lady Pirates,” Smith said.

Polson traveled to Columbia Falls Tuesday before heading to the Butte Central Tournament this weekend.
